BISD Bands Achieve Historic Success!

Brownsville ISD had more bands participate in the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contests than ever before in the 76-year history of district band programs. A total of 29 bands received UIL awards, 20 bands earned a UIL Sweepstakes award, and 16 improved their ratings over last year. The BISD Instrumental Music Department also provided an evaluation performance for 10 bands that were not suited for or eligible for UIL competition. This evaluation performance provided these students with an opportunity to critically analyze their mastery of the TEKS for the Instrumental Music curriculum. In total, a record 47 bands, serving approximately 2,100 students in grades 7-12, were evaluated either internally or through UIL competition. While BISD has always had a strong band program, these results are the best the district has ever produced.
