BISD Schools Provide A Good Start

Brownsville ISD has consistently maintained its dedication to the youngest students in the district. As a result, a total of 21 campuses have been designated by the Texas Education Agency as 2012 PreK Centers of Excellence. The BISD schools are active participants in the Kindergarten Readiness System (KRS) which evaluates the effectiveness of prekindergarten, Head Start, and licensed child care programs in preparing children for kindergarten. Providers participating in the 2010-2011 Prekindergarten Early Start (PKES) grant and Texas School Ready! programs were required to report data to the school readiness certification system. The KRS used this data and public school data resulting from each student’s reading diagnostic instrument administered at the beginning of the child’s 2011 kindergarten year. The analysis determined the impact each preschool program had on improving student learning regardless of the characteristics of its student population or the specific literacy instrument used in kindergarten. TEA Designated the Following BISD Schools as 2012 Prek Centers of Excellence Aiken, Benavides, Castaneda, Cromack, El Jardin, Gallegos, Garden Park, Garza, Gonzalez, Hudson, Longoria, Palm Grove, Pullam, Putegnat, Resaca, Russell, Skinner, Southmost, Vermillion, Victoria Heights, and Yturria Elementary Schools.
