Board Approves Early Notification of Resignation Plan
At the regularly scheduled meeting held on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, Brownsville ISD Board
Trustees approved a resolution to survey employees to determine who is interested in
participating in an Early Notification of Resignation plan.
BISD, like all Texas districts, is facing a budgetary shortfall with limited funding from
state, federal, and local revenues for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year and beyond.
Approximately 78% of the district’s annual budget is comprised of employee compensation and benefits. This survey is an attempt to obtain an accurate forecast this school year of employees who do not intend to return to employment next year. The survey totals will allow the district to assess its personnel needs and costs for the upcoming 2011-12 school year resulting in significant cost savings.
The district is prepared to offer early notification payments in the amount of:
* $10,000 for Classroom Teachers, Counselors, Nurses, Librarians, and Speech
_Pathologists (Cap of 200);
* $4,500 for Administrators and Special Assignment Personnel
_(Cap of 25), and
* $3,000 for Classified Personnel (Cap of 50).
Interested employees must contact the BISD Human Resources Department and submit all required paperwork beginning April 11 and no later than April 25, 2011 at 5:00 PM. Some restrictions do apply.
“Through a series of meetings, the BISD Board Budget Committee and administration have identified several methods to cut costs and reduce expenses. This early notification plan is one way to close our anticipated financial deficit while still maintaining the academic progress that has become the standard in our district,” said Superintendent Brett Springston.
