Lopez JROTC to Celebrate 100th Anniversary The Lopez Early College High School JROTC will celebrate the 100th JROTC Anniversary by hosting the largest run in military history. The Fun Run will be held worldwide on Saturday, April 23, 2016, with the local event at the Brownsville Sports Park. As part of a worldwide commemoration of the Junior Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (JROTC) Anniversary, the Fun Run is a one-of-a-kind event that allows participants around the world to run together, with each time zone’s start time synchronized to 3:00 PM Greenwich Mean Time. The local Fun Run will begin at 10:00 AM. The public is encouraged to participate in this free event to support JROTC and help the Cadets break the world record. The Lopez Lobo Battalion is encouraging all JROTC and ROTC alumni to join them for the event, either as a participant or a volunteer. Background: JROTC stands for Junior Reserve Officer's Training Corps. It is a military-supported high school program whose purpose is to educate high school students in leadership roles while making them aware of the benefits of active citizenship. The JROTC curriculum emphasizes academics, citizenship, character development, leadership skills, physical fitness, and community service.
