BISD Wins Grant

Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) has been selected as a $10,000 grant winner in America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education, which gives farmers the opportunity to nominate their public school district to apply for a merit-based grant to enhance math and science education. The grants are available through the Monsanto Fund. After a three tier grant review process, Brownsville ISD was selected as one of nine winners in Texas. Brownsville ISD faculty, local farmers and Monsanto representatives will participate in a check presentation ceremony on Monday, October 22 at 5 pm in the Vela Middle School Gymnasium, 4905 Paredes Line Road. BISD will use these grant funds for the district’s new STEM Infinity Magnet Program which was established at all middle schools this school year. Infinity classes began with 6th grade students and the program will grow one grade level per year for the next three years. More than $2.3 million will be invested in rural education across 39 states through this program. This year, more than 61,000 farmers nominated 3,342 school districts to apply for grants. America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education is part of a four-part initiative, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, which highlights the important contributions farmers make every day to our society.
